Haz & Zard Wins WorkSafe Award
23 Dec 2004
The government of Western Australia has presented An Meá with a WorkSafe Award for Haz & Zard, a unique hazard management training program developed by Dr Graham Marshall from An Meá.  The WorkSafe Award recognises outstanding achievements that contribute to reducing safety and health risks in the workplace.

The Minister for Consumer and Employment Protection, John Kobelke, presented the WorkSafe Award - one of only five awarded in 2004 - to Dr Marshall at a ceremony hosted by the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) in Perth.  The Minister praised An Meá and Dr Marshall “for an outstanding contribution to safety and health in the workplace and for their initiative in producing a low cost training aid.”

Speaking at the Award ceremony, Dr Marshall thanked a range of early adopters of the Haz & Zard program, noting the particular contribution to its successful development by APPEA and Woodside Energy.  APPEA assisted in the development of the original “industry” version, with its focus on higher risk operational environments and activities.  The industry version was successfully introduced to Woodside, who then assisted in the development of a new “office/home” version that focuses on lower risk office environments and activities.

Haz & Zard has been successfully adopted by more than 20 companies worldwide, including Shell Trading & Shipping Company (UK), Sakhalin Energy (Russia), Shell Gas & Power (Malaysia), BlueScope Steel, BHP Billiton Petroleum and Woodside Energy Ltd (Australia).
